Holiday Gifts – Day 2

Over the next several days I’m going to share with you some healthy living gift ideas for the holidays!  I’ll try to keep the posts brief because we all need more simplicity at this time of year, so if you have additional questions, be sure to ask.  I’m happy to answer! This idea is a bit last minute (due to holiday shipping schedules), which is why I'm sharing it with you right away in my gift ideas series.  It's another healthy living topic that I haven't yet discussed very thoroughly: essential oils!  However, I have shared a few different ways in which we use essentials oils in our home, here and here.  We choose to use Young Living Essential Oils for their purity, quality, and effectiveness!  Their Seed to Seal...

Holiday Gifts – Day 1

Over the next several days I'm going to share with you some healthy living gift ideas for the holidays!  I'll try to keep the posts brief because we all need more simplicity at this time of year, so if you have additional questions, be sure to ask.  I'm happy to answer! I'll have lots more to share with you in the future on today's topic!  You know how important I think safe skincare is because I've shared about it here and here!  What I hadn't shared with you before was a company I've been getting to know over the past year, plus.  Again, I'll share more later about why I've waited to tell you about this incredible company, Beautycounter.  What I will tell you is that since I first learned...

Benefits of Hiring a Health Coach & the Four Tendencies

One of the things I hear often from my clients is that they think they mostly know what they should be doing to achieve "X" goal, but making it happen is another story.   Does this often ring true for you?  I know it does for most people, including myself occasionally.  For example, I know my digestion is best when I enter meals in a calm, un-rushed, un-stressed state, and eat slowly, without a lot of distractions.  But do I always do this?  No, I often have distractions at meals, eat too fast, and feel rushed.  Hence the reason for my upcoming project, Unplug & Nourish, which you can join too (it's 1 week long and FREE, starting December 10th, 2017).  I may be a health coach, but...

My Favorite Non-Toxic Self-Care Products

You guys let me know that you were interested in learning more about choosing non-toxic self-care items. So, I want to share with you some of the items I love and use regularly.   I know when switching out my own products, there have been times that I've had to try multiple items to find one that works well.  So, hopefully by sharing these with you, it'll make your transition easier.  To make these switches, most of the time I used up an item I already had and when it was time to replace it, I'd do the research to find a suitable alternative.  One of the ways in which I did this was to consult the Environmental Working Group's (EWG) Skin Deep Database.  On their site, I always try...

Thriving Through the Holidays – A Fresh Approach

With the start of the holiday season often comes: more social gatherings; lots of distractions related to decorations, gift-buying, finances, and more; increased stress; highly scheduled calendars; lots of food, often in the form of treats; etc.  Now, honestly, you'll find so many health-related sites sharing information about how to healthfully get through the holidays. However, I think you’ll find my perspective slightly different. I hope you'll take the time to read...

A Guide to the (Re)Introduction of Exercise to Promote Health

Recently I wrote 2 posts about exercise and weight loss and the truth about the relationship between the two (parts 1 & 2). This post will be much more beneficial if you go back and read both of those before reading on.  In another post, I also wrote about how some may need to consider exercising LESS to PROTECT their health.  As I mentioned in the latter post, due to my winding health journey over the past 5 years, I have experienced exercise across the continuum of very little activity (sedentary) to over-training.  When I was sickest in 2013, even just walking, light yoga, or more than one errand in a day even with 3 or more days rest in between made me feel worse....

How to PROTECT your Health by Exercising LESS

In my recent posts about exercise and weight loss (parts 1 & 2), I clarified the truth about the relationship between the two, and identified a few types of exercise that promote OVERALL health as well!! Within the last 6 years, I have personally experienced both extremes in my life regarding exercise: over-training (for my health status) and having VERY limited activity (due to my health status)....

The TRUTH about Exercise and Weight Loss – Part 2

If you haven't read part 1 of this post, you MUST do that before reading on.   Just to review a couple of the key points: Exercise and burning calories are not synonymous. Hormones rule {almost} everything in the body. You'll do yourself a disservice if you read this post without reading part 1.  You may even want to review part 1 before reading on.    Okay, jumping RIGHT back in...
